Urban Design & Smart Cities Award - call for entries

The GDA Award for Urban Design and Smart Cities is now accepting submissions for the 2024 edition. This international award recognizes outstanding thinking in urban design and the integration of smart city technologies to create sustainable, livable, and innovative urban environments. As we face the pressing challenges of climate change and rapid urbanization, the importance of thoughtful urban design and smart urban solutions has never been greater. By combining innovative physical building design with cutting-edge smart technologies, we can create cities that are not only more efficient and resilient but also healthier and more enjoyable places to live.

The GDA award is truly ground-breaking. The award goes beyond the professional bouondaries of urban planners, architects, designers, city officials, and organizations involved in urban design and smart city projects. The award is also open to other individuals and citizen groups who can contribute to the greater urban good.

Smart city solutions can also come from app project groups as well as software creators, power companies, UX engineers and a host of other talents. Smart solutions in urban contexts include a wide array of technologies and approaches that enhance the quality of life for residents, improve environmental sustainability, and boost the efficiency of urban services. These solutions encompass smart transportation systems, energy-efficient buildings, advanced waste management systems, and data-driven public services. By utilizing big data analytics, cities can optimize traffic flow, reduce energy consumption, and provide real-time information to citizens, thereby making urban living more convenient and sustainable.

So we invite applications from a wide spectrum of completed projects and also conceptual designs. Projects should demonstrate innovation, sustainability, and a positive impact on urban living.

Join GDA in celebrating excellence in urban design and the advancement of smart cities. By recognizing and promoting the people who really do create innovative solutions, we aim to inspire others to contribute to the development of better, more sustainable urban environments. We look forward to your innovative and impactful applications. The deadline is the 20th September 2024.
