GDA Awards are thrilled to announce the most eagerly anticipated category of our awards – GDA Sustainable Excellence. We have witnessed a remarkable increase in the number and quality of applications, which shows a growing commitment to sustainability. The winners are from the US, Europe and Asia, reflecting the fact that sustainability is a global priority across the world.
In 2024, we experienced an astounding five-fold increase in the number of applications, each showcasing innovative and high-standard sustainability practices. The competition was incredibly fierce, making the judging process both challenging and exhilarating.
Today, we honour four outstanding entries that have been acclaimed as winners. These projects exemplify extraordinary quality and dedication to sustainability, setting new benchmarks in their respective fields. Congratulations to our winners for their exceptional contributions to a more sustainable future!
ESGPT is an imaginative research portal focusing on ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) practices. It uses advanced AI to evaluate businesses’ impacts on the environment and society, scoring them across specific criteria. Its key strengths are that it detects trends and best practices, offering ESG performance recommendations to staff and management.
A striking feature that the jury likes was that instead of just indicating current and past data, ESGPT identifies future ESG trends and risks, using AI from diverse public sources. A positive ESG rating attracts the right kind of staff as well as responsible investors and improves efficiency, benefiting companies and not least, the planet.
By changing from a monotonous area of grass to a biodiverse area, the aim at Bygholm Soepark in Denmark was to provide a habitat conducive to a wide range of plant and animal species. Diverse vegetation, such as native wildflowers, shrubs, and trees, creates niches for insects, birds, and small mammals were encouraged. The aim was to increase biodiversity and foster ecological balance, pollination of plants, and natural pest control, ultimately leading to a healthier and more resilient ecosystem in the Danish neighbourhood of Horsens. By reintroducing indigenous plants, the project has reestablished ecological connections. This restoration has been guided by biologists from Horsens city authorities and has brought several benefits even at the simple level of more fruit from the apple orchard due to greater pollination by the increased in insect life.
There is a multitude of travel apps available but the new HaiGo innovation seems to go much further than the existing range of other apps. What attracted the GDA jury was that HaiGo enhances urban transportation and promotes green travel in Taiwan by offering comprehensive public transit information, seamless ticketing, and extended features like dynamic icons, interactive maps, and a “One Code Passage” virtual transit card.
The HaiGo carbon reduction ledger tracks personal carbon savings with graphs and progress graphics. If we are going to make a difference globally in sustainability then it is up to each individual to be aware and to help. HaiGo does just that. The AI Travel Assistant provides personalized travel recommendations and local discounts directly to the user. When many people use the HaiGo system, the overall sustainability impact will encourage green transportation, support urban sustainability, and at the same time as boosting the local economy.
The strength of the GDA Awards system is that every application is seen in detail so that it is understood properly. The fourth winner of the GDA Sustainability Award was admittedly difficult to understand at first, but on deeper examination, it turned out to be most interesting. The essence of the project is one of changing peoples' understanding and behaviour of sustainability and the need for a sustainable approach. Sciencely Handmade (SH) was founded in Taiwan in 2022, and focuses on integrating environmental consciousness into daily life through diverse products, services, and ESG education. As a strategic ESG consulting agency, it works to promote empowerment of staff through suggested ESG branding solutions. This works through all levels of a company's activities, from ESG lifestyle events and workshops and down to sustainable corporate gifts and eco-friendly merchandise so that ESG becomes al all-embracing discipline for individuals as well as the company as a whole. As we mentioned above, GDA receives many applications from several countries worldwide - in every category. Not everyone can be a winner. But we have arranged the categories so that there are wider possibilities for your project to get the acclaim and the recognition it deserves. Thanks to everyone who applied. The next call for entries is for the GDA Heritage Award and the GDA Urban Design & Smart Cities Award. Both on the 20th September 2024.
