A hydrogen powered electric scooter!
The pioneering project is one of the winners of the prestigeous GDA Green Award 2022
Hydrogen Scooter for APFCT, Taiwan Asia Pacific Fuel Cell Technologies | Hydrogen fuel from renewable sources like wind, solar and water power is fast becoming a fuel for larger vehicles, trains and ships. The advantage of hydrogen is that it is a CO2 free source of energy that can be stored. But new research shows that hydrogen can also be used for small vehicles and the new hydrogen fuel cell scooter is a marked breakthrough. The APFCT Hydrogen Scooter is an ultra-quiet, fast, non-polluting urban vehicle that doesn't take forever to recharge. No large heavy batteries needed so the vehicle is relatively light in weight. This is a legacy project that has been at the forefront of this technology since it was first introduced. At the time, in 2010 the market wasn't right. It is now. The APFCT hydrogen-electric scooter was developed through prototypes into the production stage by a team of designers from DNgroup in Denmark and APFCT technologists in Taiwan. The scooter runs on an electric motor powered by 2 low-pressure hydrogen fuel cells. These power cells were easy to change. It takes a minute or so to tank up the scooter to full power. Hydrogen technology is beginning to be explored again for trains, trucks, and buses. At last - in 2021. It is a thrill to enjoy buzzing around the streets with a frightening amount of silent acceleration. |
DNgroup, Horsens | The design team for the APFCT Hydrogen Scooter included Frederick Rickmann, Jakob Normand, and Lars Lynggaard Christensen. "This is a most remarkable project that started way ahead of its time. It brings real zero CO2 solutions that are just right for now." says Frederick Rickmann. DNgroup is probably one of the more international offices in innovation and design in Denmark. The sheer volume of top international awards and recognition gained by DN over the past years pay tribute to the consistent global quality of unorthodox new thinking and design.
